Mission: Understanding Clouds & Aerosols and their impact on the lower
stratosphere
Variability of water vapor, temperature, aerosols, and clouds in the
mid-latitude tropopause region: implications for lower stratospheric
chemistry. Lower stratospheric impacts cannot be adequately addressed by
satellites, and the DC-8 doesn't get you very far into the lower
stratosphere. Instrumentation for measuring aerosol composition, ice
crystal size distribution, water vapor, temperature, and chemical species
such as chlorine nitrate would be needed.
