  Instrumentation Development

Of the total $81.5M awarded for the HIAPER project, $12.5M has been earmarked for the development of instrumentation for this new research platform. The National Science Foundation (NSF) oversaw the solicitation of proposals for the development of instrumentation and also had responsibility for the proposal review process and the making of final award decisions. The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is responsible for administering the awards based upon direction received from NSF.

NSF HIAPER Aircraft Instrumentation Solicitation (HAIS) Development Process

In August 2004, NCAR announced NSF's decisions regarding awards for the development of HIAPER instrumentation.

Standard Instrumentation

NCAR staff members are presently working on identifying specific state parameter sensors to be routinely deployed on the GV for research. These sensors will be flown on the aircraft for each research flight and will provide critical standard measurements.
